Just as fine as the first, maybe a little better but not enough to matter. Alastair Duncan might be my definitive Alfred, I’ve loved him in the role since The Batman cartoon and he gets good stuff here. I think the additions to the story overall work better here, from Bruce’s and Selina’s relationship to the touch of hope in the end. Going in on the Falcone-Bruce relationship was also a smart choice, if a tad overdone by the end. Same with the coin- it starts to get a little surfing Dracula with how much they have to tie it in and justify its importance, Though they try to add more I still wish there was more of the Bruce/Batman and Harvey friendship shown here to sell Batman openly calling him his friend and someone who believed in him. It’s a friendship that happens too fast and is told too often rather than shown. I don’t think Gilda needed the change to her story, or that revealing the twist to Batman himself was needed either. I think it’s still lesser than the original story not because of the material- I always thought the original story was good but not great- but because of the visuals. Tim Sale’s art does so much for the book and this just doesn’t compare.
