Many years following the apocalypse, a devout cult of mute zealots hunts down a young woman, Azrael, who has escaped her imprisonment. Recaptured by its ruthless leaders, Azrael is to be sacrificed to pacify an ancient evil that resides deep within the surrounding wilderness – yet she will stop at nothing to ensure her own survival. Concept-forward horror is always appreciated, and Azrael does not disappoint. To be reductive and compare this to things that came to mind while watching, it's like a The Last of Us Part 2 cutscene with shades of Dog Soldiers and zero dialogue; so 100% my shit. Samara goes through the absolute ringer and still looks cool as fuck covered in blood and weilding whatever she can find. The zero dialogue concept almost gets the better of the narrative when lots of the context is left unexplained, but the abstract nature is also refreshing in the modern landscape of overly expositioned settings. Short, slick and bloody romp that's perfect for the spooky season.

Like sign language: silent but has a lot to say. I'm a world of nonverbal horror (Silent Night, Monster, Out of Darkness...) Azreal speaks volumes.

Weird, frantic and violent, the pace of this movie is intense, it manages to be gripping from start to finish. The story doesn't offer anything new in terms of originality, but everything is well executed. The most distinctive element is the lack of dialog, which ends up not being necessary, as it is well supplied by a sinister setting, expressive characters, violent scenes and an impactful atmosphere of great perversity.

It is one of those productions that was not made with a very high budget, similar to classic such films. It's an average movie. The acting is okay. You're already familiar with the script. Is it monitored? If you can't find a horror movie to watch, open it and watch it. Still, good luck with your efforts.
