Yes, Martin Scorsese did a housewife melodrama and what a great one! This is a much lighter and fun Scorsese film.

Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore is a comedy-drama where we follow Alice's journey to find happiness again. Her husband died and she doesn't know that to do, she has no job and she has a son. She needs to find a job to support both of them, she dreams of being a singer but it will be some barriers in the way. It's a simple story, very easy to follow.

The performances are a very strong point in this film. There's a lot of memorable characters throughout the story. Ellen Burstyn and Alfred Lutter are a great team as mother and son. Lutter plays Burstyn's very annoying son. That kid will break your nerves, you just wanna slap him in the face and that's why is performance is so effective. Ellen Burstyn as Alice was amazing and this performance gave her an Academy Award for Best Actress.

About the direction, we are talking about Mr. Scorsese. All of his trademarks are present and he is always able to provide us with great films.
