I don't know the original story for 'Journey to the West', but this one was enjoyable! A pleasant representation of a protagonist developing a better personality and growing intellectually. It was also strange seeing a god reward poor behavior, but that is just kind of how these old folk-lore type things go.

I don't know how to judge the animation, since it is from the '60s, but I didn't mind them and I thought it was fine to watch :)
There were some cheesy plot moments where Rin Rin was just being way nicer than needed. . . and it kind of made it seem like Gokuu would have never accomplished anything without her -- which is kind of adorable when looking at it from different perspectives -- but idk. Perhaps the archetype of a woman devoting her life to a man no matter what doesn't stand up in today's society, so it seems a bit odd to witness it.

Overall worth a watch! I don't know how to rank things on Trakt, so I give this 7.5 out of 10 stars for a 60s animated film!

Apparently, the bull Gyū-Maō was inspiration for the creation of Bowser from the Mario brothers! How fun.
