Ahmed, 18, is French of Algerian origin. He grew up in the Parisian suburbs. On the benches of the university, he meets Farah, a young Tunisian full of energy recently arrived from Tunis. While discovering a body of sensual and erotic Arabic literature that he never knew existed, Ahmed falls deeply in love with this girl, and although literally overwhelmed by desire, he will try to resist it.

A handwritten poem passed to you by the trembling fingers of someone who feels too much for words. On paper, this looks like the kind of rose colored glass romance that makes me wish I could sleep through the painful clichés, but on the screen it was so much more than that. Not only was the romance handled with subtlety, the characters were 3 dimensional and the conflict was as real as it was relatable. A Tale of Love and Desire is an very human tale, told earnestly, and supported by a sincerity that will stay with you long after you leave.
