Whether this film is really "the beginning of narrative editing" is a question of definition. The train segments that can be seen before and after the kissing scene in most versions weren't actually part of the film. It was just a suggestion to program it that way, as a surprise joke in between the then-popular phantom ride films. But that editing wasn't done by the filmmakers, it was left to the exhibitor or projectonist. I appreciated the little joke in the end.
