On the scale that's provided, I would have to give this one a solid 6.5...but it would have to be 6.5000001 because it leans _ever so slightly_ towards being a "7". As far as the fight scenes go, this has to rank as one of Seagal's best in quite a number of years; he's doing a lot of hand-to-hand Aikido fighting in this one, and it's not a stunt double shot from the shoulders down (as is the case in some of his more horrible films). Also, no annoying voice-over doing his lines for him. I have mixed feelings about _A Dangerous Man_ mainly because in his previous film, _The Keeper_ , that "bad attitude" presence just seemed to emanate from him naturally, without seeming forced. Here, in _A Dangerous Man_ he was, indeed, a "dangerous man", but it once again felt forced...as though he was trying to convince himself of how bad a dude he is. I miss (I think we all do) the days of a strutting, skinny, ponytail-sporting cocky Italian cop walking around like he was just spoiling for someone to get in his way. In most all of his recent movies ( _The Keeper_ being an exception) it just feels like he's "trying too hard"...pushing to make himself seem like that tough hombre he was 20, 30 years ago. Maybe it's just me.... Here, in _A Dangerous Man_ though, we have a decent story (refreshingly different from many of his D2V films) and one thing that appealed to me was that his (Seagal's) character seemed to really have a mean streak. I mean, he just walked around - understandably filled with rage and contempt for the justice system and society that had destroyed his once-happy life - and seemed to almost WELCOME trouble. He carried his part very well in this film, and even the fight scenes were well done. At times, the whole film came across a tad juvenile, like something a bunch of college students would put together, but Seagal has been doing low-budget films for a long time now, so it's really not anything noticeably different - or WORSE - than any of his recent movies. Byron Mann played his part to absolute perfection; he was actually GREAT to watch here and did the villain role beautifully against Seagal's hero. The other players, well... What can you say? You won't see any Oscar-winning performances here, but Steven Seagal's movies have always been about Steven Seagal. Enough said. Definitely worth watching to any fan of Steven Seagal, and kind of a welcome relief after some of the disastrous films he's put out in recent years.
