Overview

Set in the year 2024 in post-apocalyptic America, 18-year old Vic and his telepathic dog, Blood, are scavengers in the desolate wilderness ravaged by World War IV, where survivors must battle for food and shelter in the desert-like wasteland. Vic and Blood eke out a meager existence, foraging for food and fighting gangs of cutthroats.

Besides the brilliant ending, and some great scenes, this movie is sadly awful.

I did try to sniff out more Fallout lore.

Wasn’t one of the more enjoyable post apocalyptic films for me. This one was a bit of a bore. I’ll give it credit for an interesting ending though.

Close but didn't connect with me. First scene shows us the morality in this post apocalyptic world. So we question whether casual mass rape can be a social possibility. I can't think of any evidence to support it would. The main character of Vic is very unpleasant. His companion is a dog names Bloodand he'said a bit less unpleasant. Also why does Blood talk? Anyone else hear the dog talk? I'm willing to go with it.... The dialogue is okay between Vic and Blood. It's chummy, teasing and a power struggle but it doesn't reveal much about the character frustration oand psychology other then Vic needs to rape and Blood needs food. They meet a woman (initially stalked for rape) called Quilla who is disguised as a man. To jot get raped?.... The plot becomes a little hazy and the geography of this post apocalyptic landscape seem odd... and what are screamers? Anyway Quilla set up to Vic so that an underground society can milk sperm from him and use it to seed the their society. They've somehow been watching Vic and determined he's the best option. But Quilla is already in love with Vic by this point. She has been ever since the attempted rape and mutilation threats. Blood was previously left above ground as Vic went below to discover his new life in a kind of sacrifice. It feels a bit Disney and you know they'll be reunited. Everyone in this underground society is ruled by the comittee who comprise of a few dictators. The commitee have resources and technology more advanced then above, but as we know the sperm is dismal down there. Why? Many moments like this remain unexplored. A lot of people living below also appear to be wearing clown makeup.... there is a robot hitman. ... and that loudspeaker near the end is too loud! So Vic and Quilla brake out and go above ground. Freedom! No need to rape again! Blood was still waiting. Dogs are loyal like that. Was Quilla? But poor blood needs food. It's quite predictable when you watch the movie and Quill becomes dog food. It ends with an joke about eating her which actually kills the creepy atmosphere that was just created... The movie seems to be motivated by selfish acts more than rounded character, consequences and the exploration of the story. There are enough ideas going on that most people will get something out of it. This movie could have been so much more. It could have made many statements on society but didn't. I think Don Johnson was good in it.

One of my favourite movies. Way too underrated. I consider it to be well over other post-apocalyptic movies like Mad Max & Waterworld. And God's bless, there are no (virus-made) zombies.
