An experimental animated short, using a variety of mixed media and techniques. From pencil sketches, to stop-motion using paper cutouts, to 3D CGI. I believe there may have even been a scene that partially utilized pastels. This short film does it all.

From an animation perspective, this makes it a truly fascinating and captivating work, even if the 1998-era CGI doesn't hold up quite as well as the other mediums do. The pencil sketches are truly impressive, not only being incredibly detailed and lifelike, but also staying incredibly consistent in terms of motion and form. These parts are reminiscent of some of Richard William's later work, as well as perhaps Belladonna of Sadness.

The score is also exceptional, providing an orchestral operatic score that perfectly suits the visuals, and is reminiscent of such works as Disney's Fantasia.

The story here is not very easy to follow, and is perhaps the weakest aspect, but I feel as though it's not the focus of the film. Insidead, it trades a conventional plot and thematic elements in order to present us with an experimental visual feast for the eyes. Worth watching for anyone who is captivated by the art of animation.
