Exorcist by way of Star Wars/Marvel, there’s a moment where a priest shows up and the music hits like Iron Man just walked in. It’s also full of melodramatic monologues and the Ellen Burstyn scene from the trailer has the funniest payoff you’ll see all year

I've seen a lot of reviews of people saying that they hated it. I don't know if I was watching something else as I thought it was a pretty good movie and gave me throwbacks to watching the original in my teens. A lot of back story, something the original didn't use or need, but I feel the sequel will now just go all in.

"The Exorcist: Believer" presents a commendable effort in a well-trodden subgenre of horror. While it may not reach the iconic status of the original, this sequel introduces fresh elements by featuring the simultaneous possession of two young girls and a diverse group of individuals working together to combat the demonic forces. The film intelligently embraces many familiar exorcism tropes, delivered with charisma and strong performances by the cast. Visually, it excels, evoking a sense of genuine exorcism terror.

One notable highlight is the portrayal of different religious beliefs collaborating to achieve a common goal, shedding light on the universal nature of this supernatural battle. "The Exorcist: Believer" deserves recognition as one of the better entries in the series, though this category often succumbs to clichés. While it may not match the original's brilliance, it's an engaging and well-crafted horror movie, leaving room for anticipation if it indeed marks the beginning of a trilogy.

Didn’t expect much. It didn’t deliver much. Anyone that says this movie is better than the original Exorcist should be exorcised. This is better than The Exorcist II and maybe the original prequels.

yeah... NOOOOOOO. First off, fast forward to 45:25 everything before that is a waste of time. Watch until the old lady meets the girl and skip to 1:18:30 Nothing to do with the original exorcist,they just use Reagan as a condiment. The protagonist is the most blunt untalented actor EVER,but he's black so... Anyway, I couldn't care less about any of the characters, I was so annoyed I was cheerleading for the demon at some point :joy:. just a run of the mill child possession. Nonody cares, we've see enough of them. ALSO,they had to make it racial cuz they didn't wanna just have a white kid but they didn't want to have a black kid evil either. So they made both of them evil:joy::joy::joy::joy:N. W. O. RATE: 5/10 cuz I feel magnanimous

Geez! Where do I start? The first and second act are fair, possession is fast, and in those 48 hours it has those creepy vibes that reminded me lightly to the original movie. Leslie Odom Jr acting is the only thing that holds everything together, but oh boy, the third act is just bad bad bad. The moment Ellen Burstyn comes unnecessary to scene everything goes way down fast. No character development, a priest that I didn't even know his name,
and that stupid idea about getting together a kind of League of Justice/Avenger exorcists tag team is ridiculous and idiotic.
I'm sure William Friedkin is rolling on his grave. A trilogy? Please no. Leave The Exorcist franchise alone once and for all!
P.s. Did anyone timed how many minutes does Ellen Burstyn appears on screen? What a waste of talent to just bring her for such a mediocre and bad written part.
such a disappointment, I was waiting more or at least something that is making sense compared with the original (since they have decided to link it) It has a fair first part and the second part is just a big NO , I just can’t believe how was this approved , so many writers to deliver this (?) Do they really wanted to deliver this? Who thought this was a good idea? How are they where they are? I just don’t get it . It’s not that bad but it is messy , it will sadly be one of those many irrelevant exorcisms movies

One of the best horror movies of all time.... just got one of the worst add-ons of all time. It's 2023, but the prosthetics look worse than they did in the 1970's. I can't believe this garbage is getting a new trilogy. Such a huge disappointment.

This was bad. I can't really tell you which is worse: the story, the dialogue, the directing or the acting. I was unable to find a single redeeming quality about this pile of dung. If I could say anything to David Gordon Green after this, it would be: "Please, stop."

It introduces some interesting ideas such as that possessions are not exclusive to the Catholic religion, which is shown in the multiculturalism of the main exorcism session but, like many others, it is an approach that never fully develops. Trying to find the balance between paying homage to the original version and updating the story, this time it has not been particularly successful, and even bringing back Ellen Burstyn feels like a totally wasted element. It doesn't even make the exorcism session add anything new to what has been seen in other films.

Like putty: bland, formless and very, very silly.

You should definitely not watch the original Exorcist before this because this cold rehash pales to the first in every way imaginable, but especially the writing. Maybe the writers should go back on strike because if they're as tired as this script, they definitely need more time off.

Also, I have two questions:

1. Who decided that Leslie Odom Jr should play his character as 'flummoxed' in literally every scene?
2. How could they underuse Ellen Burstyn so criminally? I'd be Burstyn with anger if I were her.

The first act was intriguing but then it turned into a made for tv show. I will not be going to the sequels.

I am delighted to say that the 7th movie is as weak and bad in my opinion as the 5 films before. If this franchise had been stopped after the first movie. Everthing would've been saved.
The plot is super weak and unoriginal. The theme and depth is nearly not there. The acting and dialogue? What can I say? Pure garbage. Cinematography and editing was okay.

>==My personal rating:==
-Plot (Story Arc and Plausibility): 3/10
-Attraction (Premise & Entertainment Value): 4/10
-Theme (Identity & Depth): 4/10
-Acting (Characters & Performance): 2/10
-Dialogue (Storytelling & Context): 3/10
-Cinematography (Visual Language & Lighting, Setting, and Wardrobe): 5/10
-Editing (Pace & Effects): 5/10
-Soundtrack (Sound Design & Film Score): 4/10
-Directing (Vision & Execution): 2/10
-The “It” Factor (One-of-a-Kind & Transcendent): 3/10 (Literally any Exorcist movie)

>**Overall: 3/10 || 35/100**
