Fantastic follow up. It doesn't quite follow the same themes, but it's interesting enough in its own right, with the mentoring story. The Scorsese direction makes it even more fresh.

I think it's the first time that I didn't fully enjoy a Martin Scorsese film. The first hour didn't work very well for me, I caught myself thinking about other stuff, unfortunately I was getting bored, I wasn't totally concentrated. The second half of the film it's when things started to get interesting due to the intensification of the conflict between the two main characters. I guess what turns it into such a heavy film to see and it causes us some kind of monotony too, is the fact that almost every scene is passed into pool halls. The pace in the first half is not the best too. Paul Newman gives a great performance and Tom Cruise is always good playing this kind of "boy with an attitude" roles. I was impressed by seeing that most of the scenes where the characters are playing pool it's actually Newman and Cruise playing. Their pool skills are very good! Martin Scorsese used his best skills to film this one, it's absolutely well filmed. He turns pool games into gorgeous things to look at. The editing is also great. Too bad it didn't captivated me since the beginning. The Color of Money is not a bad film but I expected more.

It's not The Hustler. This is Top Gun/Cocktail/Days of Thunder: Pool edition. Older mentor. Check. Cocky young and talented guy that makes really bad mistakes with both his career and girlfriend. Check. Contemporary music score. Check. Feels like Scorsese said "I wonder how good a movie I can make where I literally put no effort in?" This, my friends, is the answer.

Following on from the enjoyable "Hustler" (1961), Paul Newman's "Eddie" takes the cocky but green pool player "Vincent" (Tom Cruise") under his wing so he can teach him how to win and to win big. Initially hostile to the idea, "Vincent" realises his opportunity and pretty quickly the pair are on a t More
