Believe me when I say: it's OVERRATED²...
too long and boring, the ending was kind dumb and nonsense as well...

*I liked the acting of the mom in the "second part" of the movie (near the ending itself)

And the award for most annoying kid goes to???? Samuel from The Babadook!
The only scary part of this movie was the amount of boredness that it brought me.
Trust me.. It was overwhelming boring and it was so incredibly bad.
Honestly i think it might doesn't even deserve a 4!

@sopherian Jesus the kid made me contemplate on turning the movie off multiple times just 30 minutes in. The most annoying child character I've seen in my entire life.

I liked the movie, but the kid definitely competed with the kid from Close Encounters of the Third Kind for most annoying.

Good movie, more thriller. Did not scare me but I enjoyed it. And wow, the boy can act!

I think that the mother was trying to save her son from her own self. In my opinion there was no real Babadook, only her deep depression. The book probably was made by her, there is some mention about her being a writer before.
Amazing acting.

I think it's really easy to miss the point of this "horror" film. Keep an open mind to the end and look for the clues.
For me, the Babadook was a manifestation of the mother's grief. The ending feels really awkward unless you think about how people deal with grief. You don't "defeat" it but you manage it. And at any moment it might consume you all over again. The boy isn't allowed to feed it at the end because like grief it can't be completed processed as a child.
Shit was fucked up but I absolutely loved it. So hard to come across a good horror movie.

'The Babadook' is a well done horror film, one that is most definitely creepy.

I would've liked more from the monster and how it works, though the film does give you enough and certainly does a fine job at building up the atmosphere of uneasiness that the thing produces. One great part I noticed is the sound editing, which is astutely crafted throughout.

Essie Davis does terrific in the role of Amelia, she shows every emotion that her character is feeling nicely - I felt her pain initially with the kid, too. Noah Wiseman plays her son, Samuel. He is actually quite impressive given his age, there are a few scenes where he adds a fair deal to them.

It's hearty, suspenseful and attempts proper horror as opposed to forcing things like jump scares, which I will always praise a production in this genre for. I wanted a little more, but overall I like this.

It wasn't that bad but don't expect a scary movie. It's more a drama than horror for sure.

People who think this slow should stick to any of the 20 Insidious movies, where there's a jump scare every 10 minutes.

I basically spent the whole movie thinking that The Babadook is obviously three kids in a trenchcoat.
