Short, simple, sweet. A lovely way to spend an hour.

Simple and sweet like hot chocolate at the end of a long November Saturday.

This gentle fairy tale tells the story of an 8-year old girl who befriends an 8-year old woman...

It is a beautiful film about coming to grips with loss from the perspective of a child. It's intentionally slow, but never feels like a drag because of the attention paid to the emotional nuances of the moment.

7/10 - for understanding Maman

Absolutely lovely film. Deals with big subjects, like aging and death, but does so in a sweet and almost comforting way.

The final line where she calls her mum by her actual name and means that it actually may have happened was wonderfully done!
Great film

Genetics and blood relation are a wonderful, creepy thing. We are our parents just as they are us. Their story is our story, and any story we create is a continuation of theirs. Céline Sciamma’s Petite Maman is a time capsule film that weaves past and present together as if they were concurrent, which ultimately they are.

Film’s ability to warp linear time is particularly satisfying because it comes closer to representing how humans experience time in real life than any other medium can.

Sciamma does a great job at capturing that singular childhood experience of really seeing your mother for the first time, when you realise she had an entire life before you, that she is more than just a mother but a person and a child too. Nelly pictures her mum’s life at her age, and her relationship with her own mother, which allows her to better understand and empathise with the pain her mother is going through in the present.

The house (full and empty) and the woods as the bridge between the two add a powerful symbolism for the experience of growing up.

Beautiful!

Beautifully shot but missing that added layer of connection for me, Petite Maman is a lovely spectacle but fell short in delivering it's emotional punches in a concise and timely manner. Although, that final "au revoir" got me real good.

A child gets the chance to meet (or imagine) her mother as a child and fill the emotional gaps between them. We only get to see mother and child interact at the same level, enjoying what only appear to be scenes of daily life in a temporary moment of isolation from grief. Even though I had my handkerchief ready, “Petite Maman” mostly painted a bittersweet smile on my face as I giggled with the two children throughout this autumn fairytale-styled drama. It’s a short and simple film that deals with larger-than-life subtexts in a genuine yet sophisticated manner, without shoving things in your face or building everything up to a heartbreaking climax.

For how much I enjoyed the ride throughout, I just wish it was longer and went even deeper with its themes. Also, the children's acting felt a little too stiff even though they had the perfect physicality for the role.

Fantastic movie, plainly touching and wonderful.
神奇的电影,平淡感人奇妙。

At first, I was just attracted by the beautiful picture to watch on. Gradually the daily narrative is mixed with the fantasy story that could be both imaginary and real. A really wonderful experience.
一开始只是被美好的画面吸引着看下去,渐渐在日常的叙事中掺杂着亦虚亦实的奇幻故事,实在是一种奇妙的体验。
