I love documentaries; I love bio-pics. I especially love bio-pic documentaries about musicians and/or bands. This was neither; this was a therapy session stretched over a 2-hour time frame that wasn't worth watching. There's just (IMO) no good material here: nothing about the origin of the band, the formation, the rise to success, the failures, the on-stage and/or off-stage angst, the performances... You won't find ANY of that in this film. This is about the group hiring a renowned psychotherapist to help them come to terms with their own turmoil within themselves and with each other. The only positive I can say - and I'm not a fan of heavy metal music but being a musician and an artist, I heavily applaud and admire musicians and other creatives, regardless of what genre - is the closing of this particular film gave you a great feeling. It was good to see these guys slog through all the mess and, as Metallica, walk back out on that enormous stage and perform for their admirers. It was great to see their admirers STILL admiring them, still supporting them, still getting caught up in the throes of Metallica's music. The final couple minutes were a great testimony to the ability of people to overcome all the garbage we all get thrown every day. These guys climbed back through it all and managed to perform again, and I applaud them for that. I can't applaud this film, though; it just kind of sucked.
