The more ridiculous, the better!

If I had to criticise this on a technical level it would probably be a 5 or a 6 but with the *Fast & Furious* franchise is all about entertainment/fun, over-the-top absurdity and self-aware cheese—and so, it's an 8. By far the best experience i've had with any film in the franchise, I had so much fun and the 2h22 flew by. It's 2h22 of no script, a whole lot of action and a shit ton of **FAMILY**. ***Fast X*** not only has some of the best car action sequences we've seen in the franchise yet but it also has the most action out of all of them, it's non-stop!

Everything in Rome with the ball was one of, if not my favorite sequence in the franchise. The hand-to-hand fights were epic. I didn't like John Cena in *F9* but in this one he was one of my favorites (even though he's playing a completely different character) and his sidequest with the kid was heartwarming and some of my favorite scenes. Jason Momoa is the star! He looks like he's having the time of his life playing this insanely over-the-top villain. Best villain in the franchise yet. Charlize Theon really shines in this one, Brie Larson was a good addition and I want more Statham.

Too many subplots happening at once (even though it kinda fits with the theme of going over-the-top in every aspect), the transition between scenes is so sudden/hyperactive, the acting is iffy, the dialogue is ridiculous and some character arcs feel barely touched upon. The tone feels like a kids cartoon and that's a quality. I had a blast, can't wait for the next two parts. Highly recommend watching it in IMAX.

Another F&F movie that’s stupidly entertaining if you can meet it at its wavelength. They toned down some of the dramatic undertones and over the top antics from the last ones, which I think was drastically needed. Momoa is a blast to watch, his mannerisms do indeed feel inspired by Ledger’s Joker. In fact, I liked most of the new additions, even someone like Brie Larson is a lot more fun here than anything else I’ve seen her in. However, it’s having a hard time balancing all of its characters and storylines (did we need this convoluted mini sidequest/_Infinity War_-esque set-up?). Sometimes you really feel that any breathing room has been taken out of the edit to make it as tight as possible. It’s not incomprehensible, but I really hope they make something more focussed for the next part. It’s F&F, this should thrive on simplicity. Everything else is the same old recipe. It’s a string of imaginative set pieces (loved the bit in Rome) and other entertaining scenes filled with bad acting, normie trap rap, great sound design, soap opera dialogue, lots of production value, fun comedy, plot twists to roll your eyes at and Vin Diesel mumbling about family inbetween.

5.5/10

Completely agree and love what you said about Momoa referencing Ledger's Joker 'cause that's exactly what I thought. Great addition to the cast!

Even for a Fast and Furious film, this is a total price of crap. You'll hate yourself for watching it.

Writing a review for a sequel like “Fast X” feels pretty pointless. It’s the type of adrenaline-fueled blockbuster that rabid fans will eagerly shell out money to see and want to love, while snobby critics will begrudgingly watch with a chip on their shoulder combined with a predetermined disdain for whatever will unfold. I’m a big fan of the series, even when it veered away from fast cars and leaned into the street superhero action angle. Most moviegoers would expect “Fast X” to be a film that’s packed with big, loud, dumb fun. It’s big and loud (and certainly dumb), but there admittedly is a slight shortage of fun.

The plot is so stupid, but it builds on the best film of the franchise, “Fast Five.” If you don’t remember the movie, don’t worry: the first 15 minutes are a rehash of everything that happened. Even newbies will be up to speed quickly. The film focuses on Dante (Jason Momoa), a formidable foe who is fueled by revenge. He’s ready for blood, and Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) and his “family” are squarely in his sights. This installment takes the crew from Rome to Rio de Janeiro and beyond, with explosions, car chases, fist fights, and lots of faces from the past.

The story isn’t what most came for anyway, and the pacing slows under the weight of Diesel growling about “family” and “faith.” The jokes aren’t really funny either, and Louis Leterrier‘s direction is lacking. The threadbare writing is awful. The CGI looks shoddy. The situations our heroes are put in are so far-fetched and ridiculous that it makes Tej (Ludacris) and Roman’s (Tyrese Gibson) trip into space in “F9” seem like no big deal. In other words, there is a lot to dislike about this movie — but there’s also plenty to enjoy.

The stunt driving is absolutely spectacular, as are the majority of the action sequences. For every misstep, there’s an equally thrilling chase (like a bomb tearing through the streets of Rome). The cast mostly gives performances that are better than expected. The real MVP here is Momoa, who creates a truly terrifying character in Dante, a big screen villain for the ages. Obviously having fun with the role, Momoa completely steals and runs away with the movie. He is absolutely terrific.

The film is packed with all the fan favorite characters and a few new added for good measure (although Brie Larson as a CIA agent and Leo Abelo Perry as Dom’s son don’t bring that much to the table). Diehards will be pleased to see Letty (Michelle Rodriguez), Mia (Jordana Brewster), Ramsey (Nathalie Emmanuel), Jakob (John Cena), Han (Sung Kang), Queenie (Helen Mirren), and baddies Shaw (Jason Statham) and Cipher (Charlize Theron).

Although I’m a fan of all things “Fast and Furious,” it’s becoming increasingly difficult to overlook the fact that each film seems to become even more dependent on over-the-top silliness. “Fast X” feels like it’s headed toward the end of the road, a dead end from which the series will never return. But if you’re searching for a bit of mindless entertainment, it’s also a great way to kick off the start of the summer movie season.

The very definition of moronic.

Loud, obnoxious, cheesy characterisations, idiotic back story and enough bling to make you wince.

The only vaguely redeeming quality is the polish and money spent on the over the top, at times novel, action scenes but that's not really saying much, in the wide context of awfulness, this represents.

I'm not sure who the demographic for this flick is? I would have thought people were more evolved, as a species but well.....

In summary, just dumb, that's really all needs be said.....
