This could have been a great film, and i thought it was going to be after a good first half, but then the 2nd half went and ruined everything, very very disappointing/terrible second half in my opinion.

@brunoliv So ive just rewatched the film. The second half wasn't as bad as i remembered. In the first half it's quite methodical in it's approach to story and atmosphere. Slow with nicely designed sets and nice kind of horror-ish atmosphere. It continues to be creepy. The story isn't given enough meat for the film/second half though, and kind of devolves into being more generic and predictable. The fact that the movie had 40 minutes cut from it is quite apparent. The character's aren't fleshed out enough and what they experience, but some of it is good. Weir's transformation just isn't fleshed out enough and we don't get enough dialogue from him about the evil stuff that is going on. While there is some bloody shots and violence in the film, you can tell it's been heavily cut, and it makes the film weaker and it loses it's horror kind of vibe. <br /> <br /> The scene of the guy being blown out into space and then coming back is like slapstick, it's ridiculous and out of place. Some of the one liners are a bit ridiculous. You don't get enough stuff of what happened to Weir and what he's doing and why he's doing it. A good thing throughout the movie is the character of the captain. Good acting and dialogue and logical actions he's taking throughout the movie. We needed more deeper dialogue between the characters to make them more interesting and likeable and so we feel more affected by what is happening to them. We needed more content with the hallucination scenes and other things from this "entity"<br /> <br /> A good example of a bit of a deep scene is when they are talking to eachother about their hallucinations. Another is the captain talking to that guy about his past. But that other character didn't have any good characterization so it loses some of it's impact. Weir throughout is too scientific minded and is too much against what is clearly going on around him. He's like this the whole movie and i think it's a mistake, and i think his turn is too sudden, it needed more buildup while also being the logical person he is while being open-minded about what is going on, like the captain. This would make him more interesting and likeable and it would be more of an impact when he finally does turn. And his turn should be because of his desperation to be with his wife again and him being tempted. In the movie it feels too sloppy in it's execution.
