Might be my favorite of all Eddie Murphy's movies. Great lines, great idea, "Soul Glo", McDowells, the guys in the barbershop, just great execution altogether. I'm chuckling just thinking about the scenes again.

Still holds up as such a classic, feel good comedy. Murphy plays the fish-out-of-water story earnestly, rather than the typical, oblivious goofball. It's probably Eddie Murphy's best movie.

Haha yeah, the German title is indeed better.
But as said before, still a very funny movie. Holds up well and Eddie Murphy is just a hoot as always!

_Coming to America_ is a classic 80's comedy with excellent performances by Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall. The film's humor holds up well over time, and the duo's ability to portray a variety of different characters is impressive. While some aspects of the film may be dated, it remains a hilarious and heartwarming story about love and acceptance. Overall, _Coming to America_ is a timeless classic and one of the greatest comedies of the 80’s. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a good laugh.

This is one of those harmless, just mildly funny romantic comedies of the ’80s with a predictable plot and cookie-cutter characters. I don’t know why but the humor still kind of works, and there is a playful and genuine atmosphere in the air that still makes it a decent comedy. The only scenes that seriously felt annoying or unnecessary were the ones with Murphy and Hall try a bit too hard by performing multiple roles, like the Black Awareness Rally or the barbershop trio jokes.

I wish 'Black Friday' celebrates the work of black filmmakers writers, actors, etc. Much better than people killing each other out of selfishness over a cheap TV.

Eddie Murphy has his heart in the right place in this classic comedy. No matter how low he goes to find romance he does so in comic style and we want him to succeed.

Watching it 20+ years later, I see how much this movie inspired many others.

Acting is good. Plot is good too, it is cliche nowadays, but lets not forget it’s made in ‘88.

There are many details which were take care of.

Jeez.
I've just re-watched this for the first time since it was released. It hasn't aged well at all, I found it wooden and not at all funny. The barbers are by far the best characters and the funniest bit was the return of the Dukes.

There were three decent laughs in there. Amusing more than hilarious. Has aged fairly well and enjoyable enough, but just didn't bring as much funny as I remember.

I didn't enjoy it as much as expected, but 'Coming to America' is nevertheless still good.

Eddie Murphy is unsurprisingly the star of the film. Any notable scenes include him, which isn't a shock given the obvious and the fact he plays a number of characters; on that note, only Akeem amused me - the barber shop guys... not so much, to be honest.

James Earl Jones (Jaffe), John Amos (Cleo) and Frankie Faison (landlord) are the most noteworthy in terms of those away from the lead, while there is even an appearance from someone named Samuel L. Jackson - what ever happened to that guy?!

I wanted/anticipated much stronger humour, if only due to Murphy's presence. I can't say I laughed that much, which is disappointing. The romance parts are probably more memorable to me, even if it's kinda familiar in those regards. With all that said, I can see why loads thoroughly enjoy this - it just didn't fully land on me, personally.

Still worth viewing and I'm very much up to see the sequel.

John Landis teams up with Eddie Murphy once again for the wild and crazy comedy Coming to America. The story follows Prince Akeem of Zamunda, who decides to come to America to find an independent woman to marry who won’t just love him for his money or title. Starring Eddie Murphy, Arsenio Hall, and James Earl Jones, the casting’s pretty good. And the comedy is quite funny, with a lot of fish out of water type humor. Still, the hard R parts seem a bit unnecessary, and Murphy’s obsession with playing multiple costumed characters can be distracting at times. Overall, Coming to America is a rather formulaic comedy, but it still delivers a lot of laughs.

Reminded me of an older version of The Dictator. Was funny but felt some scenes were drawn out and was overall oversexualized in both script and humor. Mildly entertaining but wouldn’t recommend to a friend.

As the wanderlust-stricken heir to a wealthy African nation, Eddie Murphy reaches the top of the mountain in this one. Featuring a perfect blend of the budding comedian's trademark sharp-edged humor and his creeping desire to play more serious roles, it's among the rare breed of films to actually succeed unequivocally in two distinct genres. It's also the first time Murphy has taken on multiple characters in the same film, and remains his freshest performance(s) under such heavy makeup.

Arsenio Hall and James Earl Jones helm a lights-out supporting cast, while John Landis's direction maintains a quick tempo and clear bearing. It's one of those movies that's astoundingly easy to step into midway, making it a great candidate for syndication, and is rarely so bogged down in drama that it lasts even five minutes without a good belly laugh. Sweet, hilarious and timeless, I'm constantly finding new ways to enjoy it.

The first 45 minutes are about the funniest you're going to get in a film. Brilliantly written, excellent performances and a timeless story that still holds up some 30+ years later.

The last 30 mins don't work as well as they should but the film is great overall.

Of Eddie Murphy's films, I rate Billy Ray in Trading Places as his best performance. But Clarence the barber here is second for sure!
