A film of reflections (or ghosts). The filmmakers couple seems a reflection of Hansen's relationship with Olivier Assayas, Bergman's cinema is reflected in the elitist residence of Fårö, even the Safari through the stones and non-existent houses of Bergman's sets seems ironic. The real relationship is reflected in the imagined relationship, the movie within the movie, the love with barriers that is not consolidated.

Hansen-Løve’s response to Bergman. Like Virginia Woolf to the modernists. Or perhaps she’s just a well-adjusted person.

The film is pleasant to look at but dramatically, it's a bit inert. I suspect Bergman afficiandos will appreciate this film more than I did.

As exciting as packaged sheets on the shelf in a suburban Ikea.

Maybe if I knew more about Bergman? Maybe if I liked Bergman? Maybe if I liked movies about relationships tucked inside movies about relationships?

I really enjoyed this film. It takes a bit of patience to see where the story is taking us but eventually you see that you are in good hands. I suppose that if I knew anything at all about Bergman I would appreciate this film more but what was there was enough. As the blurred reality starts to play out I found the movie interesting on several different levels. While watching this film I couldn't help but think of a line from a Counting Crowes song: "Get your dreams just right".
